# Linux

> Install OpenSRE on a local Linux machine and ask your first question.

Install OpenSRE on Linux (laptop, desktop, or a local VM), sign in to your account, then ask the agent your first question.

## 1. Install

```bash theme={null}
curl -fsSL https://install.opensre.com | bash -s -- -dc
```

You don't need `sudo`. The installer puts `opensre` in `~/.local/bin` (or `/usr/local/bin` when run as root) and adds that directory to your shell rc file.

* **Same terminal:** where passwordless `sudo` is available (EC2 and most cloud images), the installer also links `opensre` into `/usr/local/bin` so it runs right away. Otherwise run the `source` command it prints, or open a new terminal.
* **GitHub CLI (`gh`):** OpenSRE's GitHub chat tools use `gh`. If it's missing, the installer downloads GitHub's official, checksum-verified build next to `opensre`. If that fails, it prints the install commands for your package manager. On Ubuntu and Debian, a plain `apt install gh` fails until GitHub's apt repository is added. Set `OPENSRE_SKIP_GH_INSTALL=1` to skip this step.
* **`--install-dir <path>`:** installs only into that directory: no `/usr/local/bin` link.

### Binary compatibility

Prebuilt Linux binaries require **glibc 2.35+** (Ubuntu 22.04+ or a comparable distribution) and do not run on Alpine Linux. Use a supported Linux distribution or the [Docker guide](https://opensre.com/docs/install/docker.md).

## 2. Set things up

```bash theme={null}
opensre
```

Create an OpenSRE account or sign in to activate the hosted model. On a server or over SSH, open the printed link in a browser on any device and paste the code it shows; see [Sign in over SSH or on a server](https://opensre.com/docs/getting-started/quickstart.md#sign-in-over-ssh-or-on-a-server). The first prompt offers a demo; pick the CI/CD analysis of a repository on this machine, or choose **E** to skip it. Add tools later, when you need them:

```bash theme={null}
opensre integrations setup <service>
```

Then verify connected tools:

```bash theme={null}
opensre integrations verify
```

## 3. Ask the agent

Chat with it in the shell:

```bash theme={null}
opensre
```

Ask: *why is checkout latency spiking?*
